Wounded Golden Eagle found at NAPI

  Featured   Resolved

A safety technician, employed by NAPI, found a wounded golden eagle on Tuesday, January 8 at approximately 11:00 a.m. The employee noticed the eagle walking through a field and unable to fly in the Region 2 area of NAPI, south of Navajo Route 3003.

NAPI’s safety department captured the eagle and immediately notified the Navajo Nation Department of Fish and Wildlife (“NNDFW”).

The eagle was alive with a bullet wound in the upper wing and all of its tail feathers removed. A representative from the NNDFW picked up the eagle by 2:40 p.m., but succumbed to its injuries shortly after arriving at the rehab facility. The incident is being investigated by proper authorities.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Wildlife Law Enforcement at (928) 871-6450 or Operation Game Thief at (928) 221-9114.
