WINDOW ROCK, AZ – Although the Navajo Nation has lifted the shelter-in-place order, “We still need to stay vigilant of this Covid-19 virus,” stated Jonathon Nez, Navajo Nation President. The recent Navajo Department of Health Emergency Order No. 2021-006 states, “The Navajo Nation’s roads remain closed to visitors and tourists for the duration of the declared public health emergency, and visitors and tourists are required to refrain from travelling to the Navajo Nation at this time.” Which means, Navajo Tribal parks will not be accessible to Visitors and Tourists during this time.
The Navajo Nation Tribal Parks are overseen by the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department. The following, lists the highly visited areas that continue to be closed to visitors; Antelope Canyon - Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park, Marble Canyon, Coal Mine Canyon, Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, Four Corners Monument, Little Colorado River Gorge, Camp Asaayí (Bowl Canyon), San Juan River (Navajo side), Window Rock Veterans Memorial Park, and Tseyí Diné Heritage Cottonwood Campground - Canyon de Chelly. Trails, canyons, rivers, historic sites and scenic roads on the Navajo Nation also remain closed.
As we start to see some light at the end of the tunnel, we would like for all travelers to be patient and understand that the Navajo Nation will gradually reopen when public health experts determine it’s safe. For now, we are following all NDOH Guidelines and keeping the Navajo Nation Tribal Parks closed.
